After graduation from Ouachita College in Arkansas appeared on Broadway and with the Philadelphia Opera until recruited into the OSS during WWII. Joined the CIA at its creation in 1947 and served for 26 years. After retirement ctive in civic affairs, serving as president of Waterford Foundation and prosucer and director of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas with the Waterford Players, Husband of Alice Baine. Memorialized by Joint resolution 260 of the Virginia legislature in January, 2005.
