Harley L. Hansen Sr., died on Friday, May 26, 2006, at his home in Rapid City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with military honors by Ellsworth AFB Honor Guard.

Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

Harley L. Hansen was born in 1919 in Pierre to Mads and Thyra (Linnet) Hansen. He graduated from Pierre High School in 1937.

In 1939, he joined the 147th Field Artillery of the South Dakota National Guard in Pierre as a bugler. After a short time, he joined the active military and served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, retiring in 1972 after 32 1/2 years of military service. He had attained the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force at the time of his retirement.

He met and married Georgene Kulbel in Pierre in 1942. They were the parents of three children who survive him: Karen (Hansen) Jackson of Montpelier, Vt., Madeline Hansen of Montpelier, Vt., and Harley Jr. of Sacramento, Calif. He is also survived by two grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Jensen of Rancho Cordova, Calif., Marilyn Hagerty of Grand Forks, N.D., and Shirley Shinn of Tuscon, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Georgene, his parents and his brother, Walter L. Hansen of Pierre.
