Harley Griffith, 93 of Albany passed away Tuesday afternoon at home.
Harley was born in McClelland, Iowa, to Owen and Blanche (Milton) Griffith. He left home at age 14 and went to work on a ranch in Wyoming. After enlisting in the Army, Harley spent World War II in the South Pacific. He married Dorothy in 1945 and they purchased and operated a farm until moving to Oregon.
Harley was an excellent landscaper and worked at OSU in that capacity. Dorothy and Harley also operated the exotic birds exhibit at the Oregon State Fair every year. Dorothy would imagine an elaborate showcase for the birds, and Harley would create it.
Harley is survived by his wife; sons Larry and wife Mary, and Jim and wife Eloise; grandson John; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children Carl Griffith and LaRee Griffith; brother Verne Griffith; and sister June O'Toole.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Evangelical Church in Albany.
