Leona M. Maylen Mooney, 73 years 17 days, of Kimberton, died at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia.
She was the wife of M. Luther Mooney.
Born in Phoenixville, she was the daughter of the late James and Leona Reynolds Maylen.
She was a 1951 graduate of Phoenixville High School. Early in her working years, she was employed by Dettra Flag Company in Oaks. She was later employed in the business offices of the former Daily Republican, now The Phoenix and West Chester Daily Local newspapers, for over 30 years respectively.
Mrs. Mooney was an active member of the Centennial Lutheran church of Kimberton. She served as Sunday school superintendent, Bible school leader and deacon, as
well as being involved in various other volunteer roles within the church.
In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is survived by two daughters: Deborah C. Bennett and her husband, Michael, of Laurel, Md., and Gail F. Smith and her husband, Edward, of West Chester; son, Jeffrey C. Mooney Sr. and his wife, Rae-Anne; sister Frances Maylen, widow of Joseph, all of Kimberton; seven grandchildren: Ellen and Matthew Bennett, Clayton and Kurt Smith and Kristin, Lindsey and Jeffrey Mooney Jr.; great grand-daughter, Kaylee Rose; and her faithful companion, miniature Dachshund, Miss Lady.
Her funeral service was held at Centennial Lutheran Church, Coldstream and Hares Hill Roads, Kimberton, with Rev. James E. Munz officiating.
