Edward Florian "Edd" Franka, 83, died Saturday, August 16, 1997. Mr. Franka was born October 5, 1913 in Garwood, TX. His family originated in the Czech communities of Southeastern Texas. The Great Depression crippled Edd's family, forcing him to financially support them as a Youth. Eventually, Edd migrated to San Antonio, where he lived the remaining 65 years of his life. In 1938 he married Aleen Schueneman and together they raised three children. This family has now grown to include numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. From the time he first arrived in San Antonio, Edd worked his way into the hardwood floor finishing trade. During WWII, he served in the fire department at Kelly Field. After the war, he formed his own business "Edd Franka Floor Finishing". Edd personally finished floors into his late 70s, only recently retiring. His amiable personality and hard work made his business a Permanent success. Edd's outgoing manner also made him a popular member of his church family. Edd was also well known in his neighborhood for his friendly charm. Edd is survived by his wife, Aleen; children, Floyd E. and his wife, Josephine Franka, Roselyn A. and her husband Roy I. Smith, Jr., and John G. and his wife Suzanne K. Franka; sisters, Mary Bubela and his twin sister, Edith Shoemaker; grandchildren, R. Stephen Smith, David B. Worley, Susan K. Worley, Steven C. Franka, Darryl E. Franka, J. Christopher Franka, Kimberly S. Franka; step-grandchildren, Patrick Shanahan, Michael Shanahon, Kathleen Shanahon, Christine Shanahan; and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 18, 1997 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 19, 1997 at the funeral home with Pastor Ronald Windecker officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park North. Memorial contributions can be made to Beitel Memorial Lutheran Church, 2515 Austin Highway, Son Antonio, TX. Arrangements are with: MISSION PARK 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive 349-1414
