COLUMBUS, GAŚ Genevelyn Edmonds Jenkins, 61, of 3129 Cherokee Avenue, Columbus, GA passed on Friday, March 5, 2010 at her residence. The Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, 2930 Thomas Street, Columbus, GA. The Reverend Donatus C. Mgbeajuo, MSP the pastor and The Reverend Paul Brick, SDS will officiate. Interment will be held at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, 13400 Upatoi Lane, Upatoi, GA. The cortege will leave from 4304 Moline Ave, Columbus, GA at 10:30 a.m., according to Charles E. Huff's International Funeral Home, located at 927 5th Avenue, Columbus, GA. Genevelyn Jenkins was the oldest of three siblings and was born on January 27, 1949 in East Chicago, IN; the daughter of Walter Daniel Edmonds, and the late Ann Clotee Hawk Edmonds. She received her grammar school education at St. Elizabeth in Chicago, IL and Carver Elementary school in Columbus, GA. Ms. Jenkins was a 1966 graduate of Carver High School in Columbus, GA. She later attended Eureka College in Eureka, IL, Olive-Harvey College in Chicago, IL and Troy State University in Fort Benning, GA. Genevelyn was a member of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church where she was a member of the Choir, Past President of the Parish Council, and Youth Advisor. She was a former member of the National Council of Negro Women, Girl Scout troop leader, and the Silhouette Christian Organization. She was a retiree from AT&T formerly BellSouth Telecommunications Company after thirty years of service. She was employed at the Muscogee County School District with the public libraries starting in 1999. She was preceded in death by her paternal great grandparents John and Celia Edmund of Fort Mitchell, Russell County, AL, Dan and Dilly Carter of Upatoi, GA; maternal great grandparents, Macon Hawk Sr., D. C. and Sally Hawk Palmer of Columbus, GA, Lang and Nora Hurt of Columbus, GA; grandparents, Walter (Peter) Edmonds and Mrs. Millie Carter Edmonds of Columbus, GA, Sylvester and Rosa L. Johnson Hawk Hert of Columbus, GA, and Macon (Whit) Hawk Jr. of Columbus, GA; aunts, Faith Herte of Country Club Hill, IL, Little Miss Dorothy Louise Edmonds, of Columbus, GA, Christene Edmonds Halford of Chicago, IL; uncles, Robert Herte of Country Club Hills, IL, Lee M. Edmonds of Thousand Oaks, CA, Fred Cunningham of Chicago, IL; cousins, Phoeba Edmonds Woodard of Chicago, IL and Willie Carter of Atlanta, GA; brother-in-law, Michael Woods of Chicago, IL. Left to cherish her memories her father, Walter D. Edmonds (Collette) of Ellenwood, GA; daughter, Charonda D. Jenkins Huff (Bruce) of Columbus, GA; two sisters, Bevelyn Edmonds of Marietta, GA and Tanya D. Edmonds Woods of Chicago, IL; Step-Mother, Carolyn C. Edmonds of Chicago, IL; two grandsons, Anthony Joseph Huff and Bruce Hudson Huff Jr. both of Columbus, GA; a nephew, Cameron Woods; a niece, Kyra Woods both of Chicago, IL; uncles and aunts: Norman R. Edmonds of Miami Gardens, FL, Charlie F. Edmonds of Harvey, IL, Ret. Gen. Albert J. Edmonds (Jacqueline) of Burke, VA, James O. Edmonds of Miramar, FL, William T. Edmonds (Treva) of Greenville, TN, Mattie F. Edmonds Halford (Carl) of Columbus, GA, Geraldine Edmonds Dodson of East Point, GA; Cousins, Betty Carter Bradley of Rinco, GA and other numerous and loving cousins, relatives, church family, friends, co-workers and former co-workers.
