Army Staff Sgt. Jonathon L. Martin, 33, of Bellevue, Ohio; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; died Nov. 22 in Regensburg, Germany, of wounds sustained Nov. 9 in Jisr Naft, Iraq, when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. He received a Purple Heart after a roadside bomb injured the tendons in one arm. He died in Regensburg, Germany, of wounds suffered on Nov. 9 in Jisr Naft, Iraq, when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. He was 33. Jon is survived by his parents; wife; two daughters, Alaina and Allaura "Allie;" a son, Trenton; a sister, Heather (Brad) Bollinger of Port Clinton; and maternal grandparents, Vernon and Vi Arnold. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John "Red" and Florence Martin.

He married Rebecca "Becki" Franks on Aug. 10, 2002, at the Marblehead Lighthouse in Marblehead.

Jon graduated in 1989 from Immaculate Conception School and in 1993 from Bellevue High School. Jon loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He especially loved fishing at the Millpond with his daughters.

He served three tours in Iraq. He received the Purple Heart during his second tour. Jon also was a U.S. Marine for six years serving in the 22nd MEU, Camp Lejeune, N.C., prior to his Army service.
