Philip was the son of John Faulk and Elizabeth Keppel of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
He lost his right arm at the Battle of Cold Harbor, Virginia, June 3, 1864, while serving under General Grant.
He married to Rachel A. (unknown), born April 1848, in Maryland.
They had no children.
Philip came to Dakota and became a prominent frontier lawyer in Yankton. His half-brother, Andrew J. Faulk, was the third territorial governor of Dakota.
