Jerry F. Lansing of Idaho City passed away Friday, March 26, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer.
Jerry was born February 19,1933, to Ralph (Jumbo) and Estal Lansing in Boise, ID.
Jerry was raised in McCall, ID and graduated in May, 1951 from Donnelly-McCall High School. After high school in August, 1951, Jerry joined the United States Navy and served as a Gunner and Ship Personnel Clerk during the Korean Conflict. He received the Bronze Star Medal, the China Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with Three Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation for his services. After his military service Jerry moved to Idaho City to be closer to his folks. While there he helped his father, Jumbo, run the Farmer Oil Service Station on Hwy. 21 and he became a Boise County Deputy Sheriff. Jerry then attended Boise Junior College (BJC) where he earned an Associate Degree in Land Surveying, which he later used to survey remote lands in Idaho, Wyoming and Alaska. Jerry was quite a charmer and, in 1972 he married the love of his life Judy Fontes of Boise. Jerry had one daughter, Jill, from a previous marriage, and he adopted Judy's four children; Melanie, Bud, Eric, and Danette. Jerry and Judy moved to Idaho City in 1973 to raise their children. After relocating he worked for the State Transportation Department for several years where he retired in June of 1996. Jerry was an avid sportsman and enjoyed the outdoors including mushroom hunting and fishing. His hobbies included fly tying, playing the drums, community theater and tooling leather as he had a keen eye for intricate detail. He also enjoyed boxing and watching all sporting events, Animal Planet TV and Judge Judy. Jerry will probably be best remembered for his love of animals as he had so many; as well as his sarcastic sense of humor!
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Jumbo and Estal Lansing; his wife Judy; his son Eric; and too many pets to name!
Jerry is survived by his three sisters; Jean Stover, June Cannon, & Jo Frost; his children; Jill (Edward) Rutledge, Melanie Wade, Bud (Shana) Lansing, Danette (Ken) Kroll; his grandchildren; Edward Jr & Terrence Rutledge (and their children); Abby and Eden Wade; James, Joel, Jordan and Chelsea Lansing; as well as six nieces, one nephew (and their children).
