Madison Star Mail - Thursday, November 11, 1954:
Funeral services for Fred G. Zessin, 75, retired businessman, were held Tuesday from the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. W. J. Oetting officiating. Interment was made in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Oscar Zessin, Bill Zessin, Gus Schwank, Emil Reitz, Gene Baumgart and Frank Schwartz.
Mr. Zessin died at 1 o'clock last Saturday morning of a heart ailment. His health was good until several years ago. He began to fail more rapidly in recent months but was never bedfast.
Fred G. Zessin, was born in Omaha on November 5, 1879 to Albert and Augusta Zessin. With them he came to live in Madison when he was about six years old. He resided here since that time.
On September 21, 1902, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Kalmer in St. John's Lutheran Church in Green Garden by Pastor E. Denninger. They had the privilege of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary two years ago.
Mr. Zessin was in the clothing business with his father until he retired in 1920. He became a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in 1908, and was a member of the firemen, park board and library board, a post which he held since 1930. His hobbies were decorating, public affairs and parades.
He is survived by his wife, a sister, Miss Emma Zessin and a brother, Edward Zessin, both of Madison. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
