Father William, mother probably Jane _____. Children: Thomas, Philo, Treadwell, Hanford, David, and Chadwick.
Johnathan enlisted in the Fourth Regiment, NY as a private in Captain Samuel Sackett's company in Feb. 1777 and served to the end of the Revolutionary War. Johnathon served under Captain Caleb Brewster in the Culper Spy Ring as a boatsman on an armed whale boat. Encrypted messages from New York City were transported from Setauket, NY across the sound to near Fairfield, CT, where they were taken to Major Benjamin Tallmadge. Johnathan signed his last name with a flourish before the "K" so his name sometimes his misread as "Skinner" because the flourish looks like a "S" before the "K". (From FindAGrave contributor nancy.)
