Harold served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-26 "The Virginian" #40-1508, Headquarter's Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in La Crosse County, Wisconsin prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 6, 1941, prior to the war, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Teacher and also as Single, without dependents.

B-26 #40-1508 was shot down by Japanese Zeros near their target and crashed in the bay off of Salamaua, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea.

Harold was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
