A Personal Sketch, by E. B. Arnold
I was born on a farm in northern Pennsylvania, on the head waters of the Genesee River, July 3, 1870. In early life I was possessed with a desire to read and study. My mother taught me to pray and be a good boy, yet I did many things that were wrong, I am sorry to say. Only a part of my childhood was I privileged to attend Sunday-school and preaching services.
When I was fourteen I was taken sick, from which I have never fully fully recovered. At the age of eighteen, after being given up to die by the physicians, I earnestly sought and found my heavenly Father. For some good reason, I trust, God spared and prolonged my life. My parents desired my baptism by sprinkling, and I joined the M[ethodist] E[piscopal]. Church. I then commenced to read and study the Bible with great interest and much profit.
Before long the Lord spoke to me, seemingly in an audible voice, "You must be baptized or you will be lost." I told the Lord I could not, because of my physical condition and lack of education and ability. But the divine call was so strong I had to obey, praise His name!"
My first sermon was on "The Signs of the Times and the Coming of the Lord." By a careful perusal of the sacred Scriptures I was led by the Spirit into the truth of the Adventists believe before I knew there were any such a people. I withdrew from the M. E. Church and united with the Adventists, and have walked with them ever since. My parents followed me in accepting the truth, were immersed, joined the Advent Christian Church, much to my comfort and joy, and later, died in the faith. The World's Crisis [undated clipping.] Transcribed for Berkshire Christian College's Adventual Library, 13 Jan 2023, by Duane E. Crabtree.

"He was laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery beside Elders D.R. Mansfield, Miles Grant, and his son Paul."
