Andrew Hartley, 85, Salt Lake City, retired Provo mail carrier and former Provo Woolen Mills foreman, died Wednesday at the Salt Lake City LDS Hospital. He was born 24 February 1872, in the Parish of Little Horton, Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, a son of George and Rebecca Richards Hartley. He immigrated to Utah with his parents in 1889. Andrew served 30 years in Provo as a mail carrier and was a delegate at large from Utah to the National Association of Letter Carriers. He also worked in the Provo Woolen Mills for 15 years and for five years in the mills in England prior to his immigration to the United States. He was a member of the Utah National Guard Band, Republicans Fife and Drum corps, Provo Silver Band and several other orchestra groups. On March 20, 1895, he married Hannah Wadsworth and after her death, he married Martha Etta Richmond Baum. Surviving are seven sons and daughters, Mrs. Joseph H. (Mary) Swapp; Cyril Hubert Hartley; Mrs. Willis (Elma) Carter; Mrs. Aldred (Frances Berniece) Erskine; Harold Hartley; Elton Andrew Hartley, and Mrs. Cecil S. (Ivy) Brimhall; 28 grandchildren, and 58 great-grandchildren.
