Printed in local Provo City newspaper, "Retired Provo Mail Carrier Dies in Salt Lake. Andrew Hartley, 85, Salt Lake City, retired Provo mail carrier and former Provo Woolen Mills foreman, died Wednesday at the Salt Lake City LDS Hospital from an internal hemorahage. He was born Feb. 24, 1872, in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, a son of George and Rebecca Richards Hartley. He immigrated to Utah with his parents in 1889, as converts to the LDS Church. He had filled many church positions and at the time of his death he was secretary of the High Priest Quorum of the Salt Lake Eighth Ward, in which he was an active member. Mr. Hartley served 30 years in Provo as a mail carrier and was a delegate at large from Utah to the National Association of Letter Carriers. He also worked in the Provo Woolen Mills for 15 years and for five years in the mills in England prior to his immigration to the U.S.A. Active in music circles, Mr. Hartley was a member of the Utah National Guard Band, Republicans Fife and Drum corps, Provo Silver Band and several other orchestra groups. On March 20, 1895, he married Hannah Wadsworth in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on March 5, 1944, in Provo. He later married Martha Etta Richmond Baum, in St. George Temple, Jan 30, 1946. Surviving are seven sons and daughters, Mrs. Joseph H. (Mary) Swapp, Provo; Cyril Hubert Hartley, Ogden; Mrs. Willis (Elma) Carter, Provo; Mrs. Aldred (Francis Berniece) Erskine, Burbank, Calif.; Harold Hartley, Orem; Elton Andrew Hartley, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Cecil S. (Ivy) Brimhall, Orem; 28 grandchildren, and 58 great-grandchildren. Services will be held in Provo Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel. Friends may call at the mortuary from 7 to 9 p .m. Friday and Saturday prior to services. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
