A.J. Douthitt, highly respected resident of Wampum, died at his residence this morning at 2:45 o'clock after a short illness.
Although he was 90 years old, Mr. Douthitt had been quite active until just a few weeks ago. He had been able to be out and around and to attend services at the Wampum Methodist Episcopal church, where he was a member. He was an exemplary citizen, held in high regard by the entire community, where he had resided for the past 78 years.
In his earlier years he followed the carpentry trade and he built many of the older dwellings in Wampum. He worked, too, on the Wampum M.E. church when it was built.
His wife, Sarah Elizabeth, died in 1926. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Alex Stewart, at home; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Wampum M.E. church and interment will be made in Clinton cemetery.
