Death: Oct. 31, 1998

Professional football player and coach. After attending Notre Dame on a football scholarship, Lou Rymkus was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 1943 and played for one season before enlisting in the military during World War II. In 1946, Rymkus became a member of the Cleveland Browns, coached by Paul Brown, and won five championships (both AAFC & NFL) before retiring from playing in 1951.

Ten years later, Rymkus became the first head coach of the Houston Oilers in the new American Football League. The Oilers would go on to win the inaugural AFL Championship game over the Los Angeles Chargers. Differences of opinion with the Oilers' owner would lead to Rymkus' dismissal midway through the following season.
