Major League Baseball pitcher. Guy Morton began his Major League baseball career in 1914 with the Cleveland Naps, who the next year changed their name to the Cleveland Indians. The 21 year-old played for eleven seasons on two different teams and ended his big league playing career in 1924. He died at the age of 41 of a heart attack at his home in Sheffield, Alabama. The "Alabama Blossom" was a 6'1" 175 pound right handed pitcher for the Indians. In 1920, the Indians won the World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers. Morton compiled a 98-88 record in eleven seasons, all with Indians. He finished 1-13 his rookie year in 1914 for a team that went 51-102. The next year (1915) he was 16-15 with six shutouts and 2.14 ERA in 1915. His club finished with a 57-95 season. He went 14-8 with a 2.64 ERA in 1918. To celebrate the 100th birthday of the Cleveland Indians, a panel of baseball writers, historians, and executives selected a roster of the top 100 greatest Indians. Of the more than 1,500 players that have played for the Indians throughout their history, Guy Morton was one of the 100 chosen.
