Ira was the son of Theodore W. Englehart and Maggie Oswalt, well known citizens of Brazil. He grew up on East Ridge Street in Brazil.
In 1918, Ira married Virginia McNutt -- daughter of Blair and Ermina McNutt.
Ira was a graduate of Indiana University and Virginia attended DePauw. After serving in World War I as a 2nd Lt., Ira joined his father, T.W., as manager of the Ford Agency at Brazil until 1937, when he became the national representative for the Carnavar Manufacturing Company.
In 1950 he established his own Sanitary Supply Company, which continued to propert until his death in 1971.
He was active for many years on the board of deacons of the Presbyterian Church. Virginia was a lifelong member of the church, too.
