George Brown Edgemon, 83, of Mer Rouge, La., died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas.

He was a lifelong farmer, cotton ginner and built cotton gins in several southern states. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a paratrooper. He was a member of the American Legion for 63 years, and Past Commander of American Legion Post 51 in Bastrop, La. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and was a member of Sons of the Revolution. He was an avid gardener and loved to fish. He was preceded in death by his father, Kimball Edgemon; his mother, Clara Brown Edgemon; two brothers, Cyrus Reuben Edgemon and Kimball Edgemon Jr.; one sister, Dorothy Edgemon Senatore; and one son, George Rickey Edgemon.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheri Edgemon Young and husband, Eugene, of Sunset, La., and Angela Edgemon Thrash and husband, Keith, of Kilgore, Texas; three sisters, Clara Belle Pickle and Alice Chapman, both of Ten Mile, and Vivian Gail Pelham of Whitney, Texas; three grandchildren, Colby Brown Rabatin and wife, Sarah, Hartwell Shane Young and wife, Amanda, and Shanari Young; five great-grandchildren, Landon Allen Rabatin, Logan Young, Kinslee Young, Morgan Taylor and Lee Scott Taylor; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ten Mile Baptist Church with the Rev. Shane Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Edgemon Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation was also held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Golden Funeral Home.

Golden Funeral Home of Bastrop, La., is in charge of arrangements.
