WILLIAM B. WHITAKER - RETIRED FIRE CAPTAIN DIES AT AGE OF 73 - William Ben Whitaker of 6217 Island 40 Road, retired city fire captain, died at 12:25 yesterday after a heart attack at his home. He was 73. Born at Bolton, Tenn., he had lived in Memphis most of his life. He had been with the Fire Department 24 years before retiring 8 years ago. He was a member of the Frayser Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Claudia Harrell Whitaker; two sons, Joe Whitaker of 2750 Lakecrest Circle, and Ben Whitaker of 6233 Island 40 Road; a daughter Mrs. Ilva Taylor of 6217 Island 40 Road; a sister, Mrs. Huldah Herring of 912 Bristol, and two grandchildren.
