Hampton Gaines Baylor Jr., 56, a Staunton attorney, died on Wednesday morning (July 5, 1972) at his residence, 321 College Circle.
A native of Augusta County, he was born on Jan. 9, 1916, a son of Mrs. Fannie (Eakle) Baylor of Waynesboro and the late Hampton Gaines Baylor. He was a graduate of Waynesboro High School, Hampden-Sidney College and the University of Virginia Law School. He served in the Air Force during World War II and was discharged as a captain.
Mr. Baylor was a past president of the Staunton-Augusta County Bar Association, a member of the American Bar Association and Virginia Bar Association. He was a substitute judge of Augusta County Court and Staunton Municipal Court and a former chairman of the 7th District Legal Ethics Committee.
Mr. Baylor was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Country Club of Staunton, the Beverley Club, the Elks Club and past president of Hugh B. Sproul Tent. Circus Saints & Sinners.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dorothy (Mohler) Baylor; one daughter, Miss Anne Alexander Baylor of New York City; two brothers, George and Jack Baylor, both of Waynesboro, and an aunt, Miss Margaret C. Eakle of Waynesboro.
A graveside service will be conducted on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Thornrose Cemetery.
