If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.
This one we love is now in your keeping. We know he was not perfect, but you know that none of us can be. We ask that you embrace him as we no longer can. You know his life was not always easy and we ask for him to be given a special place where he can rest and wait for his family. This man with the gentle soul will make Heaven brighter. He is not the talkative sort though, so if you'll just sit with him in quiet company, he'll like that fine. He leaves behind a very large family and we'll ask you for just one more thing. Could you be sure to have him waiting for us when we go home to you, too? His happy smile and twinkling eyes will be one of the first things we will want to see when we get there.
Gerald Dean Neufeld was the second child of Herbert Arthur Neufeld and Ida Lenora May . He was born at the home of his maternal grandparents. He married Ivadean Victoria Smith on July 3, 1962 in Fort Worth, Texas. He left behind his wife of 44 years, two beloved daughters, nine siblings and many, many nieces and nephews. Gerald loved children and they returned it fullfold. I think they knew that they were safe with him.
Gerald served his country in the Army and Air Force. He volunteered for a tour of duty in Vietnam when he could have had the orders changed because his older brother was already serving in Vietnam and the militaryʼs policy was not to have two brothers serving in a war zone at the same time. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service in Vietnam servicing the guns on "Puff the Magic Dragon" gunships. Gerald retired from the U.S. Air Force.
