Edouard J. GARNEAU
Edouard J. Garneau was born August 15, 1932 and died August 16, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Faye; brother-in-law, Monty J. Nicon; sister, Lauraine Anderson; best companion, 'Toby', 14 nieces and nephews; and hundreds of special cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Emile E. Garneau, mother, Flora M. (Dufresne) Garneau, and brother, Laurent G. Garneau. Ed received worldwide respect for his development of collision repair methods for heavily damaged automobiles. As General Motors introduced the 'uni-body' automobile he was involved in making recommendations for 'correct' repairs of these types of vehicle and has long been recognized as a worldwide leader in the collision repair field. He owned the following collision shops during his 35 year period of leadership, North End Auto Rebuild, North Seattle Auto Rebuild, Foreign Auto Rebuild, Aurora Collision Center and Northwest Motorcycle Sales and Salvage. He was among the founders of the Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) and a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). In 1983 he was chosen by his peers as one of six American 'hosts' for the World Automotive Conference held in New York City at the Twin Towers. After 'retirement' Ed enjoyed building new and maintaining his existing commercial properties, flying his Air Commander to Alaska and British Columbia, camping at Turner Lake while climbing Noeick Glacier, and traveling the world making new friends. His travels to Siberia, Kenya, Tibet, Russia, China, and South America were some of his favorite memories. His 'yearly' shopping expeditions to London were epic in the toys he brought back to his friends as Christmas gifts. Ed was proud of his 53 year marriage, generous with his time and knowledge and nothing gave him greater pleasure than 'sharing' with friends here and around the world. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Monday, August 23, 2010 with a Rosary to follow the visitation at 7 pm at Beck's Funeral Home, 405-5th Ave. S., Edmonds, WA. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August, 24, 2010 at Christ the King Church, 405 N. 117th St. and Dayton Ave. N., Seattle, WA. Interment, Holyrood Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to: Christ the King Church - Building Fund, 405 N. 117th St., Seattle, WA 98133 or a charity of your choice. Please share memories with the family at www.becksfuneralhome.com.
