Monday afternoon Felix N. Leslie, one of the oldest settlers of this section passed to his reward, after an illness of several weeks, aged seventy-seven years, nine month and twenty-seven days. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock where a large number of neighbors and friends gathered to pay their last respects to one whom they had known for nearly half a century.

Felix N. Leslie was born at Trentown, Allegheney county, Pennsylvania, January 20, 1842. He came west when a young man and when the Civil war broke out he enlisted in Company G twentieth volunteer infantry, from Scott county, Iowa. He served three years and took part in some of the most severe battles of the war.

Mr. Leslie was married in Clinton county, December 15, 1867 to Catherine A. McAllister, to this union were born twelve children, three daughters and nine sons. The children living are Frank H., Bremerton, Washington; Mrs. P. J. Desmond, Atlantic, Iowa; Hugh Edmond, Creighton, Nebraska; Harry A., Naper, Nebraska; Charlie T.; Joseph B.; Jessie N.; Daniel P and George F., all of Avoca, Iowa. Three children passed away in their early years. Mrs. Leslie departed this life March 27, 1918.

Felix Leslie was a member of the U.S. Grant post of Avoca and a member of the Presbyterian church. He was a man held in the highest respect by his neighbors, a hard and faithful worker and enjoyed the respect given him by his acquaintances. For a number of years Mr. Leslie lived on a farm northeast of Avoca. After disposing of his farm he moved to Avoca and has since made it his home. The family have the sympathy of the entire community. Only a few weeks ago his brother, Wm. Leslie passed away in this city.
