The 2nd Iowa in mid 1864 joined the Atlanta Campaign resulting in the Battles of Resaca, Lays Ferry, Oostenaula River, Dallas, New Hope Church, Kenesaw Mt, siege of Atlanta, Jonesboro, Sherman's March to the Sea, siege of Savannah.
Jan-Apr 1865 it participated in the Carolina's Campaign with battles of Edisto River, Bentonville,N.C., Occupation of Raleigh. After surrender of Johnston and his army, the regiment went to Washington D.C. marching in the streets for the Grand Review.
