Caroline L. Hood - Most Estimable Aged Woman Passes Away at the H. P. Hood Homestead
Mrs Caroline Laura Hood, widow of Harvey P. Hood, founder of the widely known H.P. Hood & Sons, milk business, passed away at her home in Derry on Tuesday morning aged 94 years. Mrs. Hood was born in North Tunbridge, Vt., March 1,1829 and for 67 years had made her home in Derry.
She was for many years a member of the Central Congregational church at Derry Village and a most liberal contributor and helper in every good work connected with the church and society.
Mrs. Hood was a true benefactor to those whom she could help, whenever and wherever she found them and they were legion, and yet in all her good works she was ever modest and unostentatious. Her life was a benediction to her children, and to the many friends by whom she was surrounded.
Mrs. Hood was a highly honored charter member of Molly Reid chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and also a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants.
Mrs. Hood is survived by three sons, Charles H. Hood of Somerville, Mass.; Edward J. Hood of Brookline, Mass., Gilbert H. Hood of this town, also two daughters, Mrs. J. Walter Johnsonof Manchester and Mrs. Marcell N. Smith of Boston, and of these it may be truthfully said that they have tenderly and watchfully ministered to her every want and comfort during her declining years. She also leaves 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
