Sister Eloise Nees , Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 94, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse.

Sister Eloise was born as Elizabeth Nees to Joseph and Wilhelmina (Kies) Nees on Aug. 12, 1909, at Mount Carmel, Iowa . She entered St. Rose Convent on July 28, 1928. Ministering in the field of education, she served 46 years as a teacher in elementary schools and as organist in parishes in Iowa and Wisconsin. She retired to St. Rose Convent in 1995 and to the Villa in January 2003.

Sister Eloise is survived by her Franciscan Community and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Carl, Rudolph, William, George, Frank and Leon; and seven sisters, Margaret, Emma, Anna, Victoria, Mary, Julia and Leona.

Friends may call after 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 4, when the body will be met at St. Rose Convent. A prayer service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. The Rev. Thomas ONeill, Chaplain at Viterbo University, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial in Mary of the Angels Chapel, on Monday, Jan. 5, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse.
