Roy was born to Elizabeth Sipp from Ohio and Frank William Bachert from Douglas,Illinois. Roy had five brothers Glen Eugene,Clarence Christian,Montell Fletcher,John Franklin William and Robert Lawrence Bachert. He also had two sisters Viola Vivian and Blanch Florence.

Roy graduated from Bainbridge High School abt 1938. When World War II started Roy joined the U.S.Navy. Roy was a fireman working in the engineroom. He served as a member of the Black Gang aboard the USS Lark an ocean going tug converted to a minesweeper and the USS Croatan CVE-25 an escort carrier. Roy talked about being in Newport News,Virginia alot and he showed me money that he got in Japan.

After the war Roy farmed and built a house near Fincastle,Indiana that he never lived in. After his father passed away Roy lived with his mom and farmed there. Elizabeth was taken care of by my Grandma Marjorie. I would stay with Grandma and go with her to take care of Mrs. Bachert and make dinner for Roy. Mrs. Bachert passed away in January 1969.

On December 30th 1969 [Grandma] Marjorie Helen Keck married Roy in Greencastle,Indiana. Roy had no children of his own but gained an instant family of three daughters Patricia,Linda and Bonnie as well as seven grand children and three more to come.

I always loved staying on the farm helping grandma and grandpa or just hangin out. He taught me how to drive a stick shift, a tractor, how to plow, plant, pick ,bail hay ,Plant trees, even give shots to pigs and ring them and neuter them. We were there for the holidays and alot of sundays growin up.

When grandpa couldn't farm anymore they sold the farm and bought a small home in Roachdale,Indiana. Where he and grandma had many happy years.

Grandpa passed away at Millpond Nursing Home in Greencastle,Indiana on Memorial Day. Grandpa was burried with Military Honors on Tuesday June 3rd 2008.
