Dorothy June Reider Devore was born to Calvin F and Josie Reider on Sept. 12, 1926 in Cherry County, Neb. She attended Cache La Poudre School, graduating in 1944. She met Bill, who was working at the hospital (then called Larimer County Hospital. She and Wilburn A Devore were married on June 30, 1945 in Fort Collins and celebrated their 25th anniversary at LaPorte First United Presbyterian Church with friends and relatives.
Dorothy was employed by Poudre Valley hospital from 1945 to 1952 when she became ill with Poliomyelitis. She was confined to a wheel chair but after a long rehabilitation, continued with her hobbies of cooking (cake decorating), and craft work. She operated a sewing machine by using a finger and had a specially built kitchen for her work. She was a member of the "Gayettes", a group of handicapped women who met at the Gateway Therapy Center and l the Larimer County Chapter of Physical Handicapped and Blind.
Dorothy and Bill lived in LaPorte in a mobile home custom built to accommodate Dorothy's wheelchair and special needs. Bill worked at Ideal Cement and was Dorothy's caregiver for many years.
Dorothy was injured in an auto accident in Fort Collins and did not recover from her injuries. She is survived by four sisters and two brothers. She will be greatly missed by friends and family.

Dorothy showed us how to overcome adversity. She worked to be able to care for herself, her husband and her house from a wheelchair. She also learned how to bake and decorate beautiful cakes and teach others to do this as well.|
