Mrs. Davis [Elizabeth Batten] Atkins died this morning at 9:30 at her home, 610 Tyler street. Mrs. Atkins had a severe attack of the grippe [flu] about a year ago and since that time has never been in her usual health, and for the past few weeks has been gradually falling away. She was one of the oldest residents of this city and will be greatly missed from her large circle of acquaintances. She leaves a husband and five children to mourn her death.

Mrs. Atkins was born August 19th, 1820, in Chester county, Pennsylvania, and was married to Mr. Davis Atkins in the same county in November 1841. In 1852 they moved from Pennsylvania to La Salle county and in 1876 they moved to Streator, where they have since resided. She was a member of the Methodist church, having been a faithful worker in that church for fifty-four years.

Mrs. Atkins was the mother of eight children, five of whom are now living, and are: Chas. Atkins, of Columbia, South Dakota, Frank Atkins of Chicago, Mrs. Bruce Peddicord of Williamsburg, Kan., and Mrs. Clara Peddicord and Mrs. Frank Cregar of this city.

The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole community as she was a loving wife and mother, and a kind and obliging neighbor. The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church.
