Cecil Sue Campbell, 92, of Helena, died Sat., Jan 28, 1995 at the Big Sky Care Center.
She was born November 6, 1902 in Warren, Illinois to Walter and Emma Ainsworth Kerns. At the age of 10 she came to Montana with her family and lived on a ranch near Augusta.
She graduated from the Augusta High School and Eastern Montana College in Dillon. She taught school for a number of years before her marriage on May 25, 1931, to Oliver H. Campbell who was the superintendent of schools in Manhattan.
She was an accomplished pianist and for many years she and her husband played for dances around the Gallatin County area.
She was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, where she had served as a pianist. She also served as an elder in her church. She taught Sunday school and led Bible study groups for many years.
On December 1, 1981, she received her 50-year pin from Sweet Briar Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, where she also was a Past Matron and for many years the organist.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years and was a Past President.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Don O. and Verena Campbell of Helena; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene M. and Ron Martinson of Fargo, N.D.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tues., Jan. 31 at the Manhattan Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. Burial followed at the Meadowview Cemetery in Manhattan.
