George Mason Brown was born September 21 1824 at Lexington, Feyette County, Kentucky, He was forth child of Samuel Mansfield Brown-March 26 1790 to October 23 1844 and Ann Clara Brown/Harrison-August 28 1798 to June 16 1876.
George Mason Brown was a Second Lieutenant in Captain Cassius M. Clay's company of Humphrey Marshall's regiment in the Mexican War, He enrolled May 25 1846, Mustered in June 9 1846 at Louisville Kentucky, Mustered out Jun 7 1847 at New Orleans, Louisiana, greatly distinguished himself at Buena Vista, was slighty injured in the City of Buena Vista, February 23, 1847, Known as Battle of Buena Vista or as the Battle of Angostura. He saw the United States Army use Artillery to repulse the much larger Mexican Army. Married August 20, 1849 in Bourbon County, Kentucky, to Mrs. Sarah A. Alexander/Hicklin of Bourbon County, Kentucky, moved to Saline County, Missouri, 1850. George Mason Brown was elected in May 1861 to be Captain in the Missouri State Guard in Confederate Army, killed in the second battle of Boonville, September 13, 1861, about ten yards from where his brother, Colonel William Breckenridge Brown was killed. Captain George Mason Brown left eight children: Jane Stamp, Robert Harrison, Alexander, Ann Mary Cabell, Perry Beard, Carter Henry, Laura Swinney, and Elizabeth Haggard. His wife Sarah A. "Sallie" Brown then married George's Cousin Thomas Jefferson Brown in November 1870, and one daughter was born of that marriage: Sallie Jefferson Brown
