James was the fourth of eleven children born to Dorcus E. (Foster) and James Larkin Elmore. He married (1) Arabia Ann 'Alice' (Cash) in 1877 and they had 8 children: Rennick O., Myrtle, Maud, Anice, Florence, Edna, Edith and Jessie. In 1908 he married (2) Carrie (Davis). No children from this union.

James R. Elmore Dies Sunday
James Robert Elmore, 95 year-old Payne County resident since 1889, died Sunday at his home in Ripley.
Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Ripley Church of God with Rev. B. R. Miller and Rev. R. R. Phillips in charge. Burial was under the direction of the Strode Funeral Home.
Mr. Elmore was born in Benton County, Indiana, May 25, 1854, the son of James and Dorcus Elmore.
He was married to Arabia Ann Cash at Dennison, Texas, October 15, 1877. She preceeded him in death on June 4, 1905. He later was married to Carrie Davis at Glencoe, April 5 1908. She survives him.
Mr. Elmore came from Kansas to make the 1889 run and homesteaded a farm four miles northest of Ripley. He had lived in Ripley since 1920. He was a member of the Ripley Church of God and was retired.
Other survivors include a son, Remnick O. Elmore, route 4, Stillwater; six daughters, Mrs. Myril Oldham of Anderson, Indiana; Mrs. Maud Taylor of Arkansas City, Kansas; Mrs. Anice Pruitt of Chicago; and Mrs. Edith Lower of Seligman, MO; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Jessie Snyder, preceded him in death. He also has two sisters.
