Tim was the son of Jean Russell & Katherine (Butler) Griffin. He was a cartographer, and was working in San Diego, California, when he returned to Oklahoma for his brother's wedding. While he was in Tulsa, he went to the offices of a geophysical firm where I worked. His intent was to see my boss, who was a business associate and friend of his. My boss was out of town, but I offered Tim a cup of coffee, and we visited. He called me the following day and asked me to go out to dinner. I accepted, and we saw each other every evening following that until he returned to California. In a few months, Tim had quit his job, sold his condo, and moved to Tulsa. A few months later, in November of 1978, he and I were married.
Tim was "the dad he didn't have to be" to my son from a previous marriage. Sometimes we forgot that he wasn't the bio dad.
After suffering a heart attack and having triple bypass surgery in 1983, Tim was medically disabled. However, he stayed as active as possible, pursuing several hobbies as he was able. He was actively involved in our son's school, sports, and band activities, and made our home a comfortable place for teenage friends to spend time shooting pool and playing foosball.
Although he was frequently hospitalized, he maintained a positive attitude. He set goals, and he lived to see most of them happen. He was on the heart transplant list for several months, with no match. When the doctors could do no more for him, he told his doctor, "Even after what I've gone through and what I know is ahead, I've had a good life, and I wouldn't trade places with anyone." Thus, the inscription on his tombstone.
