Jay Funeral Slated Friday
Sturgis, Oct. 14. Funeral Services for Mrs. Fred Jay, who died at her home here Monday night after a lengthy illness, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Presbyterian church. The Rev. C.D. Erskine will officiate.
Mrs. Jay was born Oct. 28, 1887, (her correct birth year is 1873) in Lyon County, Ia., and was married to Hardy Anderson in 1892 in Nebraska. He preceded her in death in 1935.
She was married to Fred Jay on Jan. 1, 1945, at Sturgis and he survives her. She is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank Spencer, in Honolulu; three sisters, Mrs. F.L. Bullis, Lidgerwood, N.D., Mrs. Anna Oakland, Rock Valley, Ia., Mrs. Mary Knuteson, Poynette, Wis., two brothers, Tobias Scheie, Warren,Minn., Simon Scheie, Newport, Neb., four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Jay was a member of the Sturgis Order of the Eastern Star, VFW Auxiliary, WCTU and the Presbyterian Workers Society.
Burial will be in the family lot in Spearfish under the direction of the Jolley Mortuary.
