MRS. M. A. MAHON DIES AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS AT 91
-----
Pioneer Resident Irish Immigrant Eight-Six Years Ago.
-----

Mrs. Margaret Atkinson Mahon, 91, died at 3 o'clock at the Mahon family homestead on the Nicolet road, after a short illness. Until two weeks ago she was as alert and active as she has been all through the advanced years of her life, 85 of which were spent in Brown County.

Born in Rathburlisk, County Sligo, Ireland, Dec. 6, 1842, Margaret Atkinson came to New York with her parents, Thomas Atkinson and Mary Flatley Atkinson, in 1848, spending 41 days in crossing. The family moved to Green Bay in 1849 and Margaret lived here ever since. Her father was the keeper of the second lighthouse in the bay from 1853 to 1859, and although she was a young girl at the time she remembered having tended the light for him during his enforced absences. For three-quarters of a century she has been an interested observer of changes and important events in the history of the country.

Mrs. Mahon secured her education in private and public schools of the city, and later taught school in Brown , Door, and Outagamie counties. She was married Feb. 14, 1872 to John Mahon who preceded her in death by three years. Last year, at the age of 90. she visited the World's Fair in Chicago, her first trip to that city since 1863, when she went by boat from Sturgeon Bay to Chicago.

Surviving Mrs. Mahon are six children, James, Thomas, Mary and Elsie at home, Katherine, Chicago, and John of Deer Lodge, Mont. Her body will be at home, and funeral services will be conducted at 9 o'clock Thursday morning at St. John's church with burial in Woodlawn cemetery.
