Plane Crash Claims Life of Navy Man John V. Kilroy, 20
John V. Kilroy, 20, a native of Oak Park who was graduated August 16 from the Navy's submarine school at New London, Conn., died Friday, September 1, during the crash of a commercial plane near Clarendon Hills.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kilroy, former members of St. Giles church. His mother, the former Mary Breneisen, attended Whittier elementary school and Oak Park River Forest high school and was married to Mr. Kilroy at St. Giles.
John Kilroy was baptized at St. Giles church and was graduated from Blue Island high school. The family moved from Oak Park when he was a child.
He enlisted in the Navy in May 1960, and at the time of the plane crash was en route to San Diego, Calif. for submarine duty after spending a two-week leave with his parents at their Chicago Ridge home.
He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Pfc. Richard and Pfc. Thomas, both members of the Marine Corps; a sister, Mary Kilroy, at home; and an aunt, Mrs. Michael Garamoni of Lenox street.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, at Our Lady of the Ridge church, Chicago Ridge. Burial was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
