Usually, a biography begins with a birth date, but that's not so simple in Charles Henry's case. Here are the ages for "Henry", "Charles Henry", and "C H" in the different censuses:

1850 - 6/12 in August, so born in Feb. 1850
1860 - 11 years old, so born in 1849
1880 - 27 years old, so born in 1853
1900 - 45 years old. Birth date given as Feb 1855.
1910 - 55, so again born in 1855.
1920 - 56, so born in 1864. He was getting younger and younger!

On his death certificate, which was completed by son Fred, his birth date was given as February 14th, 1953.

C.H.'s wife, Lucetta, wrote that he was born "Feb 14 1846." His daughter, Grace Beane Sutton, said her mother was mistaken and he was really born in 1852. His son, Gilbert Arthur ("G.A.") also remembered it as February 14th, 1952.

His gravestone reads Feb. 14, 1856. I suspect he was really born in 1850, but by the time he was 45, he'd convinced himself he was born in 1855 or 1856, so that's the year we have.

Charles Henry was born in Ridgway, Gallatin County, Illinois, to James Davis Bean and Sophia Caroline Hise. He married Lucetta Crosser on Christmas Day, 1878 and they had ten children, four of whom died in infancy. The first six children were born in Missouri. In 1892 their son Charles Henry Jr, was born in Arkansas. The remaining three children were born in Stoddard County, Missouri. In 1904 (as recalled by his grandson G.A.), his store in Missouri caught fire, so the family moved west to make a new start. As part of a wagon train of ten wagons, they traveled through Missouri, Arkansas, and finally arrived in Indian Territory, which became Oklahoma in 1907. They settled near Mill Creek but moved back to Arkansas in 1906, where Charles Henry bought a plantation. He sold it a few years later and by 1910, they were living in Mill Creek again. In 1914 the family moved to Teller, Oklahoma. There Charles Henry farmed and had a general store until it burned down in a suspicious fire.

As some point Charles Henry changed the spelling of his surname to Beane. Family lore is that his son Fred was the first to do so and everyone else followed suit.

Charles Henry became ill in April 1935 while he was visiting his sister Louisa Bean Dixon's home in Ridgway, Illinois. He returned home to Ardmore, Oklahoma, and in May, he died of a stroke according to his daughter-in-law, Hazel, but his death certificate states "hemorrhage of kidney" as the cause of death.
