TUPELO - Dewey Davis, 76, died Saturday July 17, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 20, 1934, in Lee County to Jessie Martin and Lillie Irene Kelly Davis.
A lifelong Lee Countian, he was a retired firefighter with 27 years of service at the Tupelo Fire Department. He served as Assistant Fire Chief for 15 years and served as interim Fire Chief on several occasions.
Dewey worked for Renasant Bank, retiring after 15 years of service.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Plantersville where he was a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. He enjoyed restoring old tractors, gardening, camping and drinking coffee with his buddies.
He dearly loved his two grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed taking them quail hunting.
Burial will be in Unity Cemetery.
Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Norma Pinkard Davis of Tupelo, two sons, Ricky Davis (Barbara) and Marty Davis, both of Tupelo, two grandchildren Shelby Davis and Nicholas Davis; one sister, Sara Crouch (Larry Jackson) of Memphis; and several nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nannie Carol Brown; and a brother, Shorty Davis.
Pallbearers are Jesse Neyman, Charles Mathis, Jim Crouch Jr., Brent Crouch, Mac Reedy, David Stanford, Michael Davis and Douglas Davis.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of his men's adult Sunday school class and all of his coffee drinking buddies.
