With the death of Judge L.D. Love one of Maries County's prominent, influential and well-liked citizens has passed away. L.D. Love was born near High Gate, MO, Jan 11th, 1862 of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey C. Love. His death occured at one o'clock a.m. Sept 1st 1920 in his home in Belle, MO. The "last sickness" was of 10 days duration. The past 3 years were marked with invalidity resulting from a slowly developing case of Diabetes which set in 11 years ago. On July 14, 1917 deceased was operated on and his right leg was removed.. Crutches or an invalid's chair were the only mode of getting around thereafter. Notwithstanding a spirit of contentment did not leave Mr. Love and his mind's activity continued to extend itself to its wanted spheres. The body was prepared by being embalmed by undertaker S.G. Licklider who had charge of the funeral. Interment took place Friday, Sept 3rd, in the Grove Dale Cemetery. The lodge members accompanied the body at the funeral and Rev. Scott, of Eldon, conducted services both in the home and at the Church.
HIS LIFE. At 21 Mr. Love was married to Miss Anna Imboden, June 7th, 1883, near Grove Dale. The unio(sic) was blessed with 8 children. Two--twins, Ray and Roy, died in infancy. The living are: Alfred of Charleston, Okla.; Wellington, Ernold, Guy Love, Mrs. Haddie(sic)A.L. Mathews, all of Belle, Mrs. (Gertie) H.P. Skouby, of Royal, Mo. Deceased also leaves a brother I.J. Love, of Summerfild(sic), a sister Mrs. Anna Stockton, Springfield. Mr. Love's occupation was farming. He was successful and found time on the side to give attention to public spirited projects. To help secure certain public improvements --including the steel bridge across the Gasconade at Indian Ford, Mr. Love made a campaign for county associate judge, was elected and served on the bench from 1910 to 1912. His object obtained he made no further effort for public honors. Mr. Love's entire life was spent in Maries County. Having become unable by his organic infirmity to look after farm matter deceased disposed of his farm interests to his sons and since Feb. 26, 1919 had lived in Belle where he was tenderly cared for by his untiring spouse. Death came before a very high age had been reached but the esteem in which that life had been held was testified to by the generous attendance at the funeral at which besides all the children and perhaps 35 distant relatives, hundreds of friends were present. The Adviser joins the community in offering sympathy to the bereaved. Among those present at the funeral from afar we note: Secret-service agent, T.V. Imboden, St. Louis; Mr. J.S. Imboden, Kansas City, MO; both brothers-in-law, Mr. Alfred Love, son, Charleston, Okla; Mrs. Ann Stockton, sister to deceased and Mrs. Birdie Spivey, (a niece) the latter of Springfield, Mo., Mr. Ro__ Moreland, a cousin, St. Louis, Prof.. & Mrs. L.O. Smith (cousin) of Burk Burnett, Tex, Mr. and Mrs. Jas Bacon, (parents of Mrs. Ernold Love), of Granite City, Ill., Mr. John Gehlert (father of Medames Wellington and Guy Love).

Note: I have a second obit,, dated 10 Sep 1920, which, in addition to those already named, mentions sisters Mrs. Sarah Hays and Mrs. Martha Imboden, both of High Gate and brothers Joseph of High Gate and John M. of Summerville, MO. (from contributer, J. German)
