Raymond Elliott Tibbles, 75, of 118 N. Ellis Street died suddenly Thursday, March 30, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born December 30, 1919, in St. Louis, Missouri, son of George and Karoline Gieselmann Tibbles. He married Dorothy Louise Weis February 2, 1946, in St. Louis. He was a 1939 graduate of Beaumont High School in St. Louis.
He was president and general manager of Cape Girardeau Winnelson Company, formerly the N. O. Nelson Company of Cape Girardeau since 1955. He was a WWII army veteran and a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ.
He was a member of the VFW Post 3838, American Legion Post 63, Elks Lodge, the Kimbleland Country Club, T.P.A., SEMO Booster Club at Southeast Missouri State University, the Cooper Dome Society and the SEMO Foundation. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and the Otahkian Girl Scout Council Board.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Gail Smith of Sikeston; three brothers, George Tibbles of Sawyer, Michigan, and Harold and Richard Tibbles (Arline) both of Florissant, Mo; grandchildren Jaclyn Smith of Sarasota, Florida, and Christopher Smith of Cape Girardeau; a sister-in-law, Lillian Weis of St. Louis; nephews, Paul H. (Lucinda) of Osage Beach, John (Vanessa) of Mount Olive, Ill, and William Weis (Barbara) of California, Mo; Robert of Sawyer, Mi, Jay H. of Devore, Ca, and Paul Tibbles of Phoenix, Az; nieces, Nancy Kelly (Mike) of Wildwood, Mo, Jeanne Tibbles of New Buffalo, Mi, Joy Bortle (Jack) of Ballwin, and Janet Combs (Chris)of Shawnee, Ok. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wilbur Tibbles, stillborn baby sister, brothers-in-law Harold (Elva) and Wilbur Weis, and sisters-in-law Esther, Adelaide, and Ruth Tibbles.
Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau where an Elks service will be at 7 p.m.
Funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral chapel. The Reverend James Caughlin will officate, with burial at the Memorial Park Mausoleum. The American Legion Post 63 with perform the gravesite rites.
