I am your second cousin nickname "POP." I was seven years old when you stopped by my parents house, your uncle and aunt Robert and Duncan Jones just before you left for Vietnam. I remember my father giving you the advice he gave so many young soldiers from our small town and surrounding area. He said to you..."STAY ON YOUR TOES AT ALL TIMES." Less than 30 days after you began your tour, you gave your life. You are a "Great American," and I miss you. Vernon Jones-cousin.

I believe that my first cousin was in your cousins' unit. He also was killed on the same day and province in 1967. I was at his funeral in Kentucky. I do not know nor do I have any information on his death. I was hoping you could provide me with some. Your family may have some pictures of him. His name was Dennie Neace. He was from Bonnyman, Ky. It was a bad day for a lot of people, nine in all for this one contact with the enemy. He and I were the same age and were very close always trying to out-do each other. Here are the names of the others who died with our cousins: Hervey Allen Harris, Randy Arbogast, Harold Beaverson Jr., Nathaniel Collins, Teddy Rex Dunn, William Wallace Money and Jerald Anthony Vokish. I later joined the Army with the 75th Airborne Rangers, 173rd Airborne Brigade (LRRP Team ) To take care of some old business. I would like to feel that I was there for your cousin as well. In more than one way I put the hurt on the VC. This was 1969/70. I just thought I would let you know! Your friend, Sgt. Ronald D Combs, 158 North Grand Avenue, Ft Thomas, Kentucky, 41075.

He is the son of Mr Fenzo and Mrs Odessa Harris Allen of Laurinburg, North Carolina.

He served with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 12 Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division(AMBL), USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
