Services set for 3 who drowned
Funeral arrangements have been set for three Rolling Meadows residents killed last week in a Wisconsin boating accident.
Louis C. Benning, 57, his son, Louis J., 16, and a friend, Dean M. Sarsam, 17, died Friday morning in Oneida County, Wis., while on a fishing trip.
The three were fishing from a small boat on Jennie Raisen Lake, northwest of Rhinelander, when the boat capsized, Oneida County sheriff's police said. They were a long distance from shore and were not wearing life preservers.
Mr. Benning and his son were pronounced dead at the scene. The Sarsam youth died at an area hospital.
Services for the three will be at 1 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rolling Meadows. Visitation will begin an hour before services.
Mr. Benning and his son will be buried in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Niles.
The Sarsam youth will be buried in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
Born in Chicago, Mr. Benning owned a general construction contracting firm, Meadows Interior and Exterior, in Rolling Meadows. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
His son was due to start his junior year at Rolling Meadows High School next fall.
Mr. Benning is survived by his wife, Jean; his parents, Lucille and Albert; three sisters, and a brother.
Dean Sarsam was a high school student at Miner Learning Disabilities Center, Arlington Heights.
"He was a good student," said Michael Meyer, the high school coordinator. "He was well-liked by staff and students."
Dean Sarsam's survivors include his parents, David and Gloria, and a sister.
