My sweet Gretchen was buried Saturday morning. She had gotten so old and infirm it was a blessing that she went to the Rainbow Bridge. That said, it is still very hard losing her.
I got Gretchen when she was about 4 years old. She was a rescue dog I adopted from a shelter. The workers there had found her tied by her leash to a guard rail along the side of a busy highway with an empty food bowl beside her.
When I got Gretchen home, it was clear that she had never been inside a house before. She had several issues that we had to work through. She was terrified of stairs, loud vehicles and was not too fond of men.
Over the years, Gretchen learned to trust. She enjoyed sleeping on the furniture and the warmth from the wood stove.
Rest in peace, sweet girl.
A huge THANK YOU to Nancy Murray for sponsoring Gretchen's memorial! Her kindness and generosity will not soon be forgotten.
