See wife Mary Almand bio
On 1850 census, Morgan County, GA he lists he was born in Virginia- On 1880 census several of his children say born in NC. I think Virginia is more accurate since he gave information.About James father,Thomas(Sr.)- Records from Spottsylvania County, Virginia Book J- 1774-1782 says" August 16,1779, Tolliver (x) Craig of Spottsylvania County sold to Thomas (x) Almand of the same county, 124 acres of land in Spottsylvania County for 124 pounds currency...Wit: Benjamin Bradley, Reuben Emerson. November 12, 1779( Info shared by Shirley Barham)
Same Book as above-October 16,1780, Thomas (x) Almand and Ann, his wife, of Spottsylvannia County, sold to William Sheldon of Stafford County, for 1000 pounds of currency. 124 acres of land in Berkeley Parish, Spottsylvania County.
Teste: John Hawkins, Thomas Magee,Jr.,Samuel Branham, John Almand, William Duval, Richard Estes... October 18,1780
The above records were copied from William A Crosier's" Spottsylvania County records"
Info shared by Shirley Barham- next is direct quote from her research"According to tradition, Thomas Almand and Ann, his wife, moved from Virginia to North Carolina. The sale of the above mentioned land could have been made just prior to said move, roads and transporation were such, in those days, that there was seldom a return to former abode, after a migration to distant parts were made. However, it is possible that Thomas Almand ,Sr did return to Virginia to close out his business, after the move to North Carolina, and after the birth of his son, Thomas, Jr., August 16,1779. ....and It is said that after the death of her husband, Ann, with her three sons,John,James, and Thomas, Jr. Migrated to Elbert County,Georgia, where the records show that she was given a grant of land by reason of the fact that she was a widow of a soldier of the last Indian Wars. 1784-1787. According to tradition... and the records seem to support it.. one son remained in Elbert County(John- glh),one took his family to Morgan County(James Morgan(Sr) and son Issac S.was born 1821 in Morgan County-glh)-,and one son Thomas,Jr and wife Nancy..." moved to Newton County sometime after 1821."
See Memorial for Thomas Almand, JR # 18899587 for more info on Thomas Almand, Sr. and Ann Ussery Almand( Annice(Ann). They marrried in Spotsylvania County, Virginia atho no marriage record has been found. They had at least four sons, Thomas,Jr,born in 1779, Ussery ,James and John. Shirley Ann Bennett Barham # 46985785
