LARRY R. BATES

IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Larry Ray Bates, 52, of Idaho Falls, died November 12, 2002, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born July 14, 1950 in Idaho Falls, to Harold William Bates and Georgia Iona Rigtrup Bates. He attended Idaho Falls schools, graduating from Skyline High School in 1968. He attended Utah State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mental Retardation and Psychology in 1972.

He married Helen Marie Bankhead March 18, 1971, in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. After school, they returned to Idaho Falls, where he taught school in Shelley, Idaho for one year prior to entering business with his father as a plumber. He owned and operated the family business, Legacy Plumbing, until the time of his death. He also taught in the Plumbing Apprentice program at Eastern Idaho Technical College. He enjoyed working in construction and loved spending time with his family and friends.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he has been a member of the High Priest group, served as a High Priest instructor, and in a Sunday School Presidency.

He is survived by:

Son: Jeffrey David (Hattie) Bates, Idaho Falls, ID

Brother: Ronald Harold (Marty)Bates, Kansas City, MO
Brother: William Clarence "Bill" (Cathy) Bates, Aurora, CO
1 Grandchild
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2002, at the Iona LDS 7th Ward, 5169 East Denning, Iona.

The family will visit with friends on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge Avenue) and for one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
