Death: Feb. 21, 1897

Gaspard is variously known as "Gaspard," "Jasper," and "Casper" in records. He was born in Liddes, Enremont District, Valais, Switzerland to Etienne-Célestin Frossard and Marie-Aimée Darbellay. His siblings were: Marie-Antionette b. December 16, 1829; Etienne-Florentin b. November 6, 1831; Marie-Françoise b. September 29, 1836; Georges-François b. January 12, 1839; Pierre-Joseph b. August 25, 1841; and, Ambroise-Fabien b. January 20, 1844 (souce: CREPA).

Gaspard emigrated from Liddes to the United States in 1858. At the time, he had been a waiter in Liddes (source: CREPA). During the Civil War, as Gaspard L. Frossard, he enlisted as a Private in Company E, 2nd Regiment Michigan Infantry, in Niles, Michigan. As Jasper Frossard, on January 10, 1863, he enlisted as a Private in Company F, 3rd Regiment, US Regular Army Light Artillery Battery. Gaspard mustered out as a Private, in Berryville, Virginia, on September 9, 1864 (enlistment research by J F-B # 47283216).

Gaspard married Sarah Jane Lamberton in Niles, Michigan, in 1865. They initially lived in Cass and Berrien Counties in Michigan and then later moved to Russell, Russell County, Kansas, where they raised their eleven children.

Gaspard and Sarah's marriage had been long frought with discord and abuse, outlined, shockingly, in the divorce papers filed by Sarah in the late 1880's. At least once in their marriage, Sarah tried to leave Gaspard with her very young children. After their divorce, Sarah remained in Russell; and, Gaspard returned to Switzerland for a time - finally returning to the United States, living, first, in Kansas, and then, finally, in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri, with his daughter Eva (Ida) and her husband, where he died from complications of Bright's Disease
