Mrs. Hattie Smith to Be Buried Tomorrow

Sister of Founder of Typewriter Industry

Private funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Smith, 89, sister of Lyman C. Smith, founder of the typewriter industry in Syracuse and donor of Lyman Smith College of Applied Science Building, Syracuse University, who died yesterday at her home, 1350 S. Salina st., will be conducted tomorrow.

Mrs. Smith was born at Woodhull, Aug. 10, 1856. She was also a sister of the late Wilbert L. Smith and Monroe C. Smith. Her husband, the late Dr. Frederick W. Smith, was a former health commissioner of the city of Syracuse. Mrs. Smith was a communicant of Park Central Presbyterian Church.

SURVIVING are her brother, Hurlbut W. Smith, president of L. C. Smith & Corona Typewriters; three sons, Walter L. and Leon F. Smith of Syracuse and Lyman S. Smith of Albany; seven grandchildren, Hurlbut H. and David W., Hudson A. and Lester F. Smith of Syracuse, Mrs. A. Van Wagenen Hancock of Fayetteville, George K. Smith and Miss Betty G. Smith of Albany, and four great-grandchildren, John Van Wagenen Hancock, Hudon Ashley Smith, Jr., Catherine MacIntire Smith and Ronald Hurlbut Smith. A fourth son, Dr. George Kellogg Smith, died Oct. 18, 1937.

The private services will be conducted tomorrow at the home by the Rev. Arthur W. Mielke, pastor of Park Central Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
