U.S. Congressman. He was a colonel in the Virginia Line during the Revolutionary War and aide-de-camp to Count Casimir Pulaski. Having passed the bar in 1774, he would practice law in Powhatan and Botetourt Counties following the war. He was elected to Congress as a Federalist and served from 1793 to 1797. He returned to Virginia and established an elegant estate, "Fotheringay", in Montgomery County, where he died. (bio by: Garver Graver)
